The needs of family caregivers at the end of life: the last days of life

Dear Sir or Madam,

We would like to express our sincere condolences for your recent loss of a close family member.

We are contacting you because we are interested in your experiences during the last days of life of the person who recently died.

The Federal Office of Public Health wants to promote relief offers for caring relatives and help to ensure that they receive the best possible support. For this purpose, the University Centre for Palliative Care in Bern is conducting a survey on behalf of the Federal Office of Public Health.

If you are interested in participating, we would like to ask you to answer the questions electronically and anonymously at the following Internet address:

We would prefer that the person who had more dedication to caring for the family member during this time, completes the questionnaire.

All answers are important and valuable to us. We would be thankful if you complete the questionnaire within the next two weeks. Please note that all information you provide us with will be treated anonymously.

If after reading this information, or after completion of the survey you find yourself in a sad mood, or with conflicting feelings, please contact a person you trust, or get in touch with us during working hours by calling
031 632 63 20.

We hope that the findings of our study contribute to improving how individuals are supported when caring for their family members, in particular during the last days of life, as well as in the period after death.

We are indebted to you for your support,

Prof. Dr. med. Steffen Eychmüller, Project director

Dr. Sofía Zambrano, Project director

Kezia Loeffel, Project coordinator
